About Jamison (Jamie) Deapo AAI, AIM, AINS

Jamie Deapo is the Agency Relations Manager for Chenango Brokers LLC. Prior to coming to Chenango Brokers he held various positions over his 5+ decades in the insurance industry.

In 1972, fresh out of high school, Deapo went to work in the mailroom of Royal Globe Insurance in Syracuse, NY. After 10 months in the mailroom and having completed a 26-unit P&C training course offered by Royal Globe he was promoted to an underwriter trainee in personal lines. That started his initial career with insurance companies including Prudential, Cigna and National Grange Mutual (Main Street American Cos) in addition to Royal Globe insurance. During those years Deapo held several positions in underwriting and marketing including his final position as Regional Personal Lines Underwriting Manager for National Grange in NY, PA & WV.

Jamie left working for insurance carriers to pursue an opportunity to develop his own independent insurance agency book. Over the next 15 years he created a successful independent agency from scratch which he ultimately sold to a large insurance agency in the Syracuse area so he could pursue a carrier with the Independent Insurance Agents of New York currently known as the Big I of NY. This was a natural progression as he had been President of the local Big I board in Central New York and afterwards a member of the New York State Big I board during his years as an independent agent.

At the Big I of NY Jamie held various positions in the membership and marketing areas and retired at the end of 2019 after 20+ years of service. During that time, he was awarded The Insurance Person of Distinction by the insurance community of Central New York. He also received from the Big I of NY The Vincent Alba Lifetime Achievement Award for his years of service, dedication and hard work related to independent agents and the American Agency System as well as the Distinguished Service Award for 2014-15 presented by the Big I NY Chair of the Board. 

After his long career in insurance and retiring from the Big I of NY, Jamie went to work with his longtime friend John Mason at Chenango Brokers. In his role as Agency Relations Manager Jamie works closely with John and his whole team in profitably growing the business of Chenango Brokers. His primary role is to work closely with the brokers and insurance carriers that are a major part of Chenango’s growth and success. He also assists in the training of the New Business Team as well as working on technology and workflows that maximize the effectiveness of Chenango’s operations and staff.
